#DCDrupal Meetup 4.11.11

Last night, our team attended the monthly DC Drupal meetup at Stetson’s hosted by Phase 2 Technology. As always we were accompanied by awesome presentations and quality attendees.  Following the folks at Development Seed, who presented their latest product TileMill, our very own Mike Endale presented our latest Drupal project data.ed.gov.

After the presentation, while talking to attendees, some of the discussions revolved around how TileMill can be used in Drupal, the use of the table wizard module and possible content distribution systems.

In other Drupal news, Phase 2 Technology also announced that their currently working on putting together DC’s first Drupal camp, which will to be held this summer! To learn more about this check out: CapitalCamp

Rally to Restore Sanity

According to FourSquare nearly 50,000 people came out on Saturday Oct. 30th to either Keep Fear Alive, or Restore Sanity. Either way Washingtonians and tourists alike had fun. This was by far the most I’ve laughed at a rally. No matter what your political view was, or lack of, there was a sign that we could all identify with. There was even a sign for a successful single guy by the name of Ray who’s looking for someone to “change the world” with.

"Smoke it Down a Notch"

“God Hates Tea”

"Fear Keeps Me Paid"

“Don’t Believe Everything You Think”

a blog about blogging?

This morning I attended the Social Media Club DC breakfast blogging event, an event hosted by SMCDC, it’s a great opportunity to network and learn about what’s happening locally in the digital world. In DC we have plenty of Social Media enthusiasts, today I sat next to a very well known blogger by the name of Amy from FreeInDC. We discussed the important factors of building a successful blog.

Here are some tips I picked up from the event and from surfing the web;

1. First you have to know what you’ll be blogging about, a successful blog usually has a focus, or a niche audience

2. Choose a platform that best suits your needs, blogs can be created easily on numerous websites, the options they offer have to best suit your needs Read the rest of this entry »

Social Media is not a fad

Social Media

Social Media is not a fad

Social Media has become the buzz word of the 21st century. Everywhere you go, it’s there, whether it’s tweeting, twitpic-ing, facebooking, blogging, getting Linked In it’s there all the time… non-stop. Yet everyday I get in my inbox another white paper on why I should utilize social media tools. I wonder why are we still trying to convince the skeptics? How is it possible that there are businesses, organizations, and individuals who are, dare I say it, still afraid? To be perfectly honest, if you don’t want to do it, then don’t, but understand this, your competition they’re definitely tweeting and facebooking away, and listening to the very conversations youwant to be invited too. That’s exactly it though, we now live in a day and age, where we don’t need to wait for an invitation or a green light, we can go head on and discover what best fits us, while making friends and even potential clients. At the risk of sounding like I’m “pitching from the stage” give social media a try, after all it’s free. If you are seriously considering a social media campaign and would like to increase your visibility on the web, whether it’s for your individual, organizational, or business brand give us a shout, email us at hello@blencorp.com and we can talk about your options. Until next time check out the link above it’s a video on Social Media.

Everything Social…Digital Campaigning

So not long ago I blogged about social media, and digital marketing campaigns. I told you guys, I’d be blogging about the challenges and the advantages of what this new (not so new) web 2.0 world had to offer. So with out further a due let me dive right in. As you might have read in the previous blog currently @blencorp we are working on our digital marketing campaign, one of our efforts include our Google Adwords campaign. As most of you know Adwords is an online ad management system run by Google, it allows you to create an ad, assign a dollar value to your ads and Google will post your ads on the Google Search Engine. The one thing we failed to create parallel to our Adword campaign was a custom landing page for each ad. Read the rest of this entry »

Everything SOCIAL

It’s not a day that goes by that you and I aren’t either on a social networking site, discovering a new social media tool or reading up on the latest SoMe trends. I wonder what we used to do before the Social Media revolution? Things seem like they’re not fast enough, efficient enough and there’s ALWAYS room for improvement.

In a day in age where we can’t afford to be disconnected, how do we prioritize what’s vital in our marketing campaigns? Well first of all, we @BLENCorp are dealing with this same challenge right now as we speak. We have set out to make 2010 the “digital age” for our marketing efforts. But make no mistake, we are not out to SPAM you or bombard you and only become apart of the noise. Read the rest of this entry »
