Creating KalKidan Amharic Letters from English Letters

Back in 2007 I had the honor of working on a poster for Rish Productions based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The client insisted the title of the movie Kal-Kidan to dominate the poster, so I decided to use a bolder English font and transform it to Amharic. Here is the process below the fold;-

STEP 1.
Selected  bold English fonts to start my project.

STEP 2.
Based on the Amharic letters, I had to decide to choose at least two – three English letters to cut in pieces and position it to come up with Kal-Kidan in Amharic. The lesser number of letters you select the better quality and consistency.  So I picked the the letters “O” and “J”, with another rectangle image to connect the shapes. Follow the color codes in the next step and see how they are positioned and connected.

STEP 3
I put the cut out pieces together to get the word Kalkidan in Amharic.

Merge all pieces and you will come up with this.
